It took a while but I finally found a fucking place that I can buy the rack materials I use in bulk locally! Well, north Philadelphia local but still. Having to pay to for cutting and shipping on 17-22 foot lengths would add up real quick! That and I can think of less rad places to go to..
So yeah, I'm super stoked cause this means there's sure to be more of these bad boys out there over the coming months:
Which will be awesome cause I'd love to see people rockin' em out on the streets and make a few bucks in the process. Lord knows I could use em right about now!
That is if anyone could get over the steep price I'll have to sell em for. I'm sorry but putting one of those together is never going to be cheap, quick or easy. It just isn't. Why? Let's see, it might have something to do with the fact that it's composed of 36 individual pieces and not a lot of right angles. The average rack will have a few bends, a rectangular shape and maybe 12-15 pieces. So yeah, A LOT more fab time on this piece..
Initially I was thinking of putting a price tag of $666 for obvious reasons, but I felt like I could never charge that much for a rack and fork. However, after putting a bit more thought into it and going over some of the pro builder prices on similar items, I'm beginning to think otherwise. While I'm not going to call myself a pro builder anytime soon, I know enough about metal fabrication at this point to feel very confident in the quality of their construction. So in the end, I think it's a pretty fair price for something as complex and original as it is. That and I can build the shit out of a fork now so no worries there either :-)
While there's plenty of other great quality racks out there priced anywhere from $100 to close to a grand with a fork, if you're looking for something different with a bit more gusto, this is it!
There's def a few options that can be discussed like fork crown selection, desired brake mounts and braze on details. I would like to offer the rack separately to bring the price down a bit but I'm still trying to figure out how to mount it in such a way that'll still look bitchin'. As for paint, I would like to include powder coating but I'm not sure what it'll set me back yet. That and I figure people may want to get their own painting done to properly match their frame etc. I've also been DYING to chrome one of these! I'm thinking of doing so with #2 pictured above. We'll see..
If you're seriously interested in one, I'm thinking of doing pre-order deposits so I can pick up my newly found supplies and get started. I'll give a 10% discount to anyone who pays up in full before the end of the year!
