Holiday Jeers and cheers!
So I pretty much hate the holidays. This one was even more of a bummer because I had all these great ideas of ridiculously stupid shit to do but I was SO freaking busy from the last week of work that it just put me in a foul pissy mood. So instead you just get the usual rigmarole of amusing antics and porn I've seen around the interwebz over the last few days:
The helmet is a nice touch:
This one SLAYED me:
and so did this fucking thing from Ollie:
and the latest post from Morgan over at Project B had me giggling this morn:
'Manual to face wash'- ahahaha!
I would love to own a house like this one day! Though it would be more skate-able than BMX-able. And oh man the in ground tramp just destroyed me!
Thanks Lyle!
...and last but not least, a few tasty tid bits from the bay:
Bilenky w/couplers!
Brutally BAD fucking ASS Merckx:
Not quite so sexy Kalavinka that I'm only mentioning because they're my like wet dream when it comes to NJS frames. If this was a 56cm with some crazy sparkly purple or something paint job I'd be all over it...
Auntie's actually got this sexy Nagie that would totally fit me but I've got to find someone to take the gold group off my hands first:
How much $$$ would I have to throw at you for me to be able to soil and scratch that thing up man???
For those interested in the group:
Here's what's different: Sugino 75 gold 165mm crankset and gold 48T ring, Hatta 9400 BB, EAI Gold Medal Pro 16T cog Izumi Model V Super Toughness chain, gold spokes and icy whites on the Dura-Aced, stickerless V's. Kashimax TT protector. Also have new MKS RX-1 gold pedals, new ivory Kashimax Super Sprint Five Gold straps, new Cinelli gold clips.
Any takers?? Email me at: thetriplec@hotmail.com
Also, I am currently in the market for a 56cm CTC boxed steel frame to replace my current locker frame. BUT.. it's got to be something RADICAL.. Doesn't need to be pretty, just a really nice tight frame. Perhaps something NJS.. Otherwise I may just go with a custom jammy.. Let me know at the above email addy if any of you wankers happen upon something interesting...
UPDATE:
Check out what the mailman just brought me:
A lovely set of vintage Zeus Pista cranks! I got these from a reader who acquired them along with a Zeus track bike. I'd been wanting to find some old Zeus gear for my Cuevas build and the cranks are def the hardest to find. He had some wheels but I've already got a nice set built already so I passed on em. The bike is actually all built up but I've been wanting to have it repainted properly before photographing it. Only problem now is finding the misplaced Cuevas decals I bought a while back...
Holiday Jeers and cheers!

and I came to within a cunts hair of buying this:
If you've seen one in person you'll know what I'm talking about. Also cause I've never seen one for less than $1500. I'm actually really glad the auction isn't up anymore...

Why oh why...
...can I not find a moderately priced Paramount in my freaking size???
If this one was slightly larger it would be worth buying, striping it of it's awful component group and sending off to Waterford for a proper repaint...
I was just doing a search for any other paramounts and came upon this sweet number:
WHOOOOOO Darlin'!

Onward Christian Rollers Event!
I went to scope out the Roller race event last night and it was pretty gnarly! There were a bunch of falls but no one really bought it. One of the rollers bought it though I wasn't there to bear witness. Apparently one of the guys shattered one of the drums! It was super awesome to see Bike Works roller set-up in action..
Since there was like two billion flashes going off I thought it would be more fun and or exciting to shoot some video:
Okay, it's like 10 minutes of strung together footage but there's some good parts..
So here's where I bitch out and just copy and paste what people on NYC fixed are saying.. I need to get ready to go to the job...

Al: god damn that was fun.
Talkin to Christian Vandevelde and racin against Bobby Lea was pretty cool too
Mattio: Al you got to the semis? Nice! Say more...
Driver: I think the best part may have been when buddy SHATTERED the blue roller while warming up.
...either that or the roadie in sunglasses going back for more, again, and again, and again...
Al: Alan, CyclingWMD, has some video which will give people a better idea of the races, but a good number of competitors showed up, mostly beefy track racers. The rollers took a bit to get used to. They are substantially narrower and a bit more jittery than my rollers at home. In the warm up time prior to the races, one of the racers was spinning up and one of his rear rollers catastrophically failed, with the tube completely ripping off from the axle and him shooting back into the bikeworks sign. Watching that gave me second thoughts about competing.
The races were set up with a 500 m time trial for seeding then a three up 1,000 m roller race to decide who moved forward. There were some heavy hitters competing, including current Olympian Bobby Lea and Andrew LaCorte. In the Semifinals, I ended up riding against the Bobby Lea and some other guy. I came in second in that. It was fun simply competing against an olympian, even if it was just a roller race.
The finals came down to Bobby Lea, LeCorte and some fast dude sponsored by Van Dessel. It was a tight race between LaCorte and Bobby Lea, but halfway through LaCorte lost control, crashed and somehow ripped three spokes out of his front wheel. Almost each race had someone crashing/falling off the rollers. One dude smoked his tire as he fell off.
Edit: Driver was my spotter throughout the night. Thanks Driver!
CyclingWMD: Yes! Alex killed it riding against those fuckin' track monsters!! Here's some video I shot. It's like 10 min of strung together footage but you get the idea:

Quote: driver: ...either that or the roadie in sunglasses going back for more, again, and again, and again...I felt slightly guilty watching that guy looking forward to him spilling.. but only slightly.. The best was when he got all wicked squirly (as seen in vid) and SUPER rubbed up against the wood and smoked his rear tire- you could TASTE the burnt rubber in the air it was so thick!
Great job Alex! Remind me to hang with you and Cooper (who also did a great job!) so I can get my racing chops up to par...

OT: Hallo Berlin German food cart in Midtown!
So I've been going to this place for years but since I started working over on 38th I can't go as often. Which probably isn't all bad since this shit is wicked nasty for you. BUT JUST LOOK AT IT- SO FREAKING GOOD!!! It's like eating an orgasm or some shit!
Bumped into Alex on the way back to the office. Felt like a bit of a douche since I was delivering lunch to myself and co-workers meanwhile he was delivering real packages..
Anyways, for those of you in the city or planning on visiting, go to the corner of 54th and 5th ave. Look for the long line coming from the Yellow Lufthansa Umbrellas and prepare to wait a while. I usually go around 1:30-2ish to avoid the lunch crowd. BUT.. I was just looking and I knew they had a place over on 10th ave but now there's another place over on 50th st too!
Shit. will. DEEEEESTROY you!!!
and yes.. I've reached a new personal low. Blogging about my fucking lunch...

Don't ever, ever, ever, ever...
...ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER.. let me catch any of you mother fuckers spend anywhere near this much time and effort building something as completely useless as this shit:
I don't caaaaarrrre how curious and or nerdy you are- DON'T DO IT!!! I mean, look at this thing!:
I'm going to take a wild guess and assume you still have no idea what it does...
Without going into too much detail, basically.. um.. right, you pull a lever when you stop the bike and at the same time it compresses the springs, then you pull another lever and the stored energy gets released from the springs, which pulls the chainring connected to the freewheel and it pushes you forward a little bit. Only it's not really that powerful so you just tip over instead...
I mean, nice effort..? and sorry to be an asshole but I gotta ask: WHY?????

The snob is SO going to shit himself when he gets a load of this contraption...
Don't ever, ever, ever, ever...
It's not always about beauty...
