Passing on the 79' Cinelli Supercorsa Road bike :( UPDATE: SOLD!!!

Yeah, sucks but I have to do it. I just have WAY too much other shit going on right now to have it sitting around for who knows how long before I get around to playing with it. That and after my experience with the also very awesome Ciocc Roadie that I also got for a great deal, but ended up passing on to another fellow lover of bicycles, leads me to the difficult decision of letting this baby go to another home. I'm hoping for the new owner to be a bigger fan than I of these style bikes and will take the old girl out for many a ride..

Details are:

1979 Cinelli Supercorsa Road bike

58cm CTC ST, 56cm CTC TT

As you can see it's quite lovely and rides really super nice and smooth. Loaded with Campy everything, Cinelli engraved chainring and these really cool custom shifters curved with leather inserts..

$1200 hundy takes it! Same as what I paid. Hoping it can find a home where it can be appreciated and ridden more. Otherwise I might just sell off the group and toss some SRAM RED on there- BAH!

PLEASE NOTE: While I'd rather sell it locally I would be okay with shipping but your ass is covering that expense. I DO NOT PLAN ON ACTUALLY PARTING IT OUT. Don't try and talk me down either. It's a fucking steal as it is and as stated is what I actually paid for it. Not trying to make any money off it, just trying to pass on a good deal. I mean, the Delta's alone sell for $250ish. Trades for GOOD SHIT are indeed welcome..

An update to our favorite Cyclist Shooting fucktard: SENTENCED TO 120 DAYS!

This is downright infuriating. Perhaps you recall this story: while driving down the road one day, Charles Diaz grew upset at seeing a man riding his bike on a busy street with his 3 year-old son. So he shot him in the head. Thankfully, the bullet narrowly missed his skull, instead getting lodged in the cyclists' helmet. Well, Diaz has just been sentenced for admitting to nearly murdering a man by firing a gun towards his head--and he's received a paltry 4 months in jail.

That's right. 120 days. For coming as close to killing someone in cold blood as you possibly can without actually doing so.

Here's a recap of what initially happened, as reported by the Asheville Citizen-Times, noted in Lloyd's original post on the story:

Police said Charles Diez, an Asheville firefighter since 1992, stopped his car to confront a couple riding bikes along heavily traveled Tunnel Road. Diez was apparently incensed by Alan Simons carrying his 3-year-old child on a seat mounted on the back of his bike. After an argument, Diez pulled a gun and shot at Simons, but the bullet passed through Simon's bicycle helmet, just missing his skull, police said.

Yes, this is a man whose logic appears to be that anyone who in his opinion is endangering public welfare must he himself be murdered. And he's doing less time than you could get for selling marijuana or stealing a computer. Here are some of the maddening details from Streetsblog:

In August, a grand jury reduced charges against Diez from attempted first degree murder to felony assault. While assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill certainly sounds like an offense worthy of a lengthy prison term, the presiding judge apparently agreed that this was a case of a stand-up guy having a bad day.

And whatever happened next? Mountain Xpress explains:

Convictions on such a charge result in an average 20-39 months in prison for the defendant. But in the sentencing, Superior Court Judge James Downs found that Diez's military service, along with testimony from former colleagues about his good character, were mitigating factors, and chose to sentence him to 15-27 months instead. Downs suspended all but four months of that sentence unless Diez breaks the law again in the next 30 months.

Oh, I see. If you have some good character witnesses, and have served in the military, then for you, shooting someone in the head at point blank with the intent to kill was probably just a flash in the pan. He probably just had a case of the Mondays, the poor guy. And here we are shipping him off to jail for three whole months. All he did was point a lethal weapon at someone's head and pull the trigger--it was a bad day!

Seriously, though, this decision is an embarrassment to our legal system. Tolerating this kind of behavior--towards cyclists or anyone--is absolutely unacceptable. Four months in jail is a joke for such destructive, dangerous behavior.

This Thanksgiving weekend I spent a lot of time..

..playing with Carbon Fiber and I have to say, it's an interesting material and or medium to work with. Like metal, it is stiff, strong and relatively forgiving. It also makes a wicked mess in the form of carbon dust that gets all over EVERYTHING whenever you cut or file away at it:

No seriously, I'd fuck me if I was a chick.. when I wasn't fucking, other, super, hot, chicks of course..

Right, anyways.. I was fortunate enough to procure a few broken road frames from my LBS to play with. Alas, I have reached the end of my supply's usefulness and am in need of some more. I looked online and found that you can purchase pieces but 1) I'd really rather not have to buy the shit only to bugger it up later since I'm still in the experimental phase and 2) Fuckin' shits expensive as fuck!

So.. For those of you who find yourselves with basement access to higher end bike shops specializing in broken carbon fiber frames slated for the trash, or perhaps even something of your own that you'd like to see new life breathed into, please let me know. I'd def pay for shipping and toss something your way for the effort..

Double your pleasure, double your fun!

I'm kinda digging on this dual drive set-up from White Industries:

The Double/Double is a unique drive train system the we offer. The system is comprised of a double chainring machined from one piece of aluminum, mated with an ENO crank and a DOS ENO freewheel. The configuration for a 26" wheel bike is offered with a 38/35 big ring mated with a 16/19 freewheel. The 29er configuration mates a 31/34 ring with a 16/19 freewheel. The system works by either running the chain in the outer tooth positions or, alternatively, in the inner tooth positions front to back. The gear ratios are significantly changed when switching from one combination to another, however, the chain length does not need to be altered to accommodate the two differing ratios. Running the ring in the outer position tends to be more suitable for on-road style riding, whereas, riding in the inner ring position lends itself more to off-road riding.

After enjoying the shit out of it on the Naggie, I'm down to set up the 3Rensho with it now. Aside from loving the ride enough to want another group, it also seems more 'period appropriate' for that particular frame. Which I normally wouldn't give two shits about but in this case I'm okay with making an exception..

I just got this NOS chain in the mail today:

While that one set me back a hundy, I did get another one in great used condition along with a small chunk of links and another 14T cog for $30! The great thing about having that extra chunk is that I'll be able to make my own chain whip. Unless of course I (or you) can find me one of these:

What KILLS ME is that I just recently had the chance to aquire another set of hubs and a shitload of rings/cogs but I blew it. The auctions ended before I set the Naggie up. Had I known how much I would enjoy the ride and feel of the DA10 I would've been all over that shit! There's some NOS rings up there right now but they're a bit pricey. I'm in no rush so I'm going to hold out for a better deal. Paying a high price for a chain is one thing but the rings shouldn't be that much..

So keep an eye out! ESP FOR A 15T COG!!

There was a conversation yesterday on the NYCfixed board about fork crowns on 3Rensho's and I promised to make some snaps of mines to post up for people to see. Not sure why I never really bother taking more of these type of shots when I'm actually photographing my bikes. In any case, I started with some snaps of the 3Rensho and figured, welp, got my janky ass light set up going already.. Might as well take some more! Just keep in mind that not only am I SO NOT a studio photographer and I was a liiiiitle stoney when taking these. You'll just have to forgive me for the poor lighting quality going on with them. There's also a lot of dirt the Macro lens picks up on so yes, I do ride my bikes and no, I don't really like spending too much time cleaning them up.. Aside from that- enjoy!
